After the conclusion of the winter sports season, Westfield State University Athletics continues to hold the top spot in the 2024-25 Howard C. Smith Cup standings, awarded annually to the institution with the best overall athletics program in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Junior Maddy Barry (Norwood, Mass.), sophomore Lee Gould (Southborough, Mass.), first-year Eliana Kaplan (North Andover, Mass.), and junior Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) were all named to the 2024 NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction this past Friday.

Owls student-athletes’ Jarrod Ledvina, Shea Hamel, Molly Finnegan, Dylan Clark, Tom Onorato, Katie Slattery, Ben Dawe, and Emma Nihill were all named to the 2024 MASCAC Fall Sportsmanship Team.

After winning the 2024 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference championship game this past weekend, Westfield State senior Abby Clark (Uxbridge, Mass.) and junior Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass.) received conference honors.

Westfield State University field hockey will hit the road – to Winchester, Va. to play national #9 Shenandoah University in the opening round of the 2024 NCAA Division III Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 2:00 p.m.

Westfield State junior forward Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) scored the game winning goal with 4:20 left in regulation to lift the Owls to the 2024 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference title with a 2-1 win over Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

With the win, #2 seed Westfield State (12-8) will now host the conference championship game against #5 Bridgewater State at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday at Alumni Field.
Little has been decided between these two team in the two regular season meeting this season, as this will be the rubber match for the the season series which is even at 1-1 apiece.

Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) and the Owls win as Murphy scored the lone goal of the match in the 1-0 thriller as Westfield hit the road for the regular season finale at Framingham State.
