Four Owls Recognized on NFHCA DIII Scholars of Distinction
Junior Maddy Barry (Norwood, Mass.), sophomore Lee Gould (Southborough, Mass.), first-year Eliana Kaplan (North Andover, Mass.), and junior Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) were all named to the 2024 NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction this past Friday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. — Four field hockey student-athletes for Westfield State have been selected to the 2024 NFHCA Division III Scholars of Distinction this past Friday.
Junior Maddy Barry (Norwood, Mass.), sophomore Lee Gould (Southborough, Mass.), first-year Eliana Kaplan (North Andover, Mass.), and junior Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) were all recognized for their academic excellence as student-athletes.
This program acknowledges exceptional undergraduate student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher through the fall semester, nominated by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association member coaches.
The Westfield field hockey squad recently was represented in the Athletic Director's 3.0 list this past Wednesday as a team for having a 3.25 cumulative GPA and 3.15 Fall 2024 GPA. 12 Owls were on the list and recognized for their outstanding work in the classroom.
The NFHCA proudly honored more than 550 outstanding undergraduate student-athletes from more than 135 institutions who achieved recognition as 2024 Division III Scholars of Distinction.
Westfield State field hockey balanced academic and athletic success throughout the semester as the Owls also secured the 2024 MASCAC Championship title, advancing into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1981.
