
WESTFIELD, Mass. — Westfield State junior Sadie Stauffer (Suffield, Conn.) scored the only goal of the afternoon as the Owls defeated the Rams of Framingham State 1-0 to improve to 4-1 in the MASCAC.
The first quarter saw a lot of pressure by the Owls and that resulted in their first real scoring opportunity off a turnover. The Owls forced the turnover near midfield, the offensive started off the stick of forward Abby Clark (Uxbridge, Mass.) as she found a streaking Stauffer to put Westfield up 1-0 within the first four minutes of the match.
Stauffer's goal is her fourth of the year, which is good for sixth place in the MASCAC for goals scored.
Framingham State's first scoring opportunity came in the form of a penalty corner although the Rams came in threatening, the Rams were unable to generate a shot.
A two-on-one fast break from the Owls led to a trio of penalty corners with 11 seconds left in the first quarter but no scores as the first ended 1-0 in Westfield's favor.
With no scoring in the second quarter, the Owls were in complete control that frame as they led in possession time, shots and penalty corners midway through the match.
The second half ended the way it started as a final score of Westfield 1-0 finish over Framingham State. The Owls outshot the Rams by a marginal 20-2 with a total of nine penalty corners.
Westfield goalkeeper Emma Gniadek (Worcester, Mass.) had two saves on the afternoon as her defense kept her mostly clean of shots. This is Gniadek's second shutout of the season.
Westfield will hit the road Tuesday, October 15 at 7:00 P.M. to face off against the Lancers of Worcester State for a MASCAC matchup. The Rams return home for a MASCAC matchup against Fitchburg State on Wednesday, October 16 at 7 p.m.
