Overview
The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is composed of (at least) two representatives from each varsity team and members of the Athletic Training program.
Purpose
To provide an environment for student-athletes to develop their leadership and life skills through:

Promoting a positive image on campus and in the community.

Being the voice of their fellow student-athletes.
-
Providing their service on campus, in the community and at the conference level.
-
Attending seminars and presentations to further their education in regards to leadership, alcohol awareness, sexual assault prevention, suicide awareness, career development and social growth.
Meetings
SAAC meets at the beginning of each month during the academic year in the Woodward Center, Student Lounge.
Attendance
Attendance is mandatory, unless there is a team competition/practice scheduled during the meeting time.
Community Service & Life Skill Development
SAAC representatives are required to participate in the following events:

Secret Santa for Westfield Public Schools (December)

Alzheimer’s Awareness and/or Breast Cancer Awareness - Home Games
SAAC representatives are required to participate in a minimum of two of the following events:

Special Olympics of Massachusetts - Flag Football Qualifying Tournament (October)

Athletics Hall of Fame Induction (October)

ROAR (Reach Out And Read) - Westfield Public Schools (April)

Athletics Director 3.0 Banquet (February)

Clinic at Boys and Girls Club of Westfield (February/April)

Fresh Check Suicide Prevention (March)

Leadership Events
VelocityHUB - Victory Academy
Since 2013, Westfield State has built a relationship with VelocityHUB - a company based around building leaders. Their Victory Academy hosts workshops throughout the academic year with our Captains, potential leaders, SAAC representatives, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and coaching staff to aid in developing plans and assist in navigating challenges. In the end, the student-athletes will leave with the ability to identify their own professional brand.
