The Westfield State University Athletic Training staff provides preventative care, emergency services, evaluation, management, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and medical conditions sustained by our varsity athletes. The goal of our athletic training staff is to provide the highest quality Athletic Health Care to meet the needs of the NCAA Intercollegiate Athletics program and its student-athletes. The Staff Certified Athletic Trainers work diligently to provide these optimum services to athletes of Westfield State University.

LOCATION: 
The Davies Family Athletic Training Center (Room 114) is located in the first floor of the Woodward Center on campus across the hall from the main gymnasium/field house.

VISTING TEAMS: PLEASE CALL IN ADVANCE if your team is traveling without an athletic trainer, especially if your team requires any special attention. We will be more than accommodating to your teams in providing pre-game taping. Visiting teams must supply their own tape and wraps. The use of moist heat by the athlete is available but must be pre-arranged but the visiting University/College.
 
FACILITIES & SUPPLIES: The athletic training room is open 2 hours prior to each contest and ½ hour at the conclusion of the contest. Modalities available include: hydrocollator, ice, cold and warm whirlpool, ultrasound and e-stim. Modality usage must be pre-arranged by the visiting University/College. We will supply water, ice, crutches, immobilizers, and emergency supplies. Water bottles are supplied for each team. Depending on the availability there will be a battery operated Waterboy or a water cooler at each bench.
 
For football games, there will be a sideline table, 4 ten-gallon water coolers, and ice. The visiting football locker room will be supplies with 1 treatment table, a 7-gallon cooler with cups and ice. A physician and EMS will be onsite for all home football contests.
 
Home ice hockey contests are held at the Amelia Ice Rink in Westfield, MA. Heat packs, ice, immobilizers, and splints will be supplied. Visiting teams will supply their own water bottles. A physician or PA will be present at each home contest.
 
The athletic training department has three Phillips Heartstart FR2+AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator). An AED will typically be at each home contest. In the event that multiple events are occurring at one time, the AEDs will be at the contest with the highest risk potential. One AED will always be at ice hockey practices/contests.

The staff athletic trainers at WSU are committed to staying up to date with the best management and return to play guidelines for its student-athletes when it comes to sustaining a head injury or concussion. Per the standards of the NCAA, Westfield State University has a Concussion Safety Protocol in place.
