Westfield State Athletics Welcome Back Fall Athletes for 2024 Preseason

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State Athletics welcome back over 250 fall student-athletes this week to open the 2024-25 preseason.

Football returned to campus last Tuesday while the remaining teams begin practices this week starting with men's soccer on Monday. Field hockey and women's volleyball return on Tuesday, followed by women's soccer on Wednesday, then men's and women's cross country on Thursday.

A strong 2023 fall season helped propel the Owls to a fourth-straight Smith Cup trophy with three teams set to defend their postseason titles from a season ago. Women's soccer won its third consecutive MASCAC Championship, defeating Bridgewater State on the road to clinch an NCAA Tournament bid. Men's and women's cross country also swept both team championship titles on the course as no fall sports team finished below third place among MASCAC institutions last season.

The regular season is approaching fast as here is a list of home-opening events for all nine fall sports programs:

Friday, August 30 – Men's soccer vs. SUNY Cobleskill (Alumni Field – 7:00pm)

Friday, September 6 – Football vs. Anna Maria (Alumni Field – 7:00pm)

Saturday, September 7 – Women's Volleyball vs Rhode Island Col. (Woodward Center – 11:00am)

Saturday, September 7 – Field Hockey vs UMass Dartmouth (Alumni Field – 12:00pm)

Saturday, September 7 – Women's Soccer vs Southern Maine (Alumni Field – 3:00pm)

Saturday, September 7 – Women's Golf (Westfield State Invitational at Shaker Farms CC)

Wednesday, September 25 – Men's Golf (Brett Williamson Invitational at Tekoa CC)

Saturday, October 12 – Men's & Women's Cross Country (James Earley Invitational – Stanley Park)
