Senior Day Weekend Preview
We have arrived at mere celebration as this weekend Westfield State athletics is celebrating senior weekend.
WESTFELD, Mass. — As we set our sights on another Westfield State athletics weekend, we have arrived at mere celebration as this weekend Westfield State athletics is celebrating senior weekend. For both home games by women's soccer and field hockey, all our senior student-athletes for these teams will be celebrated before the games.
The day starts out with a noon kickoff of women's soccer here at Alumni Field as the Owls take on MASCAC rival Bridgewater State. Westfield comes into Saturday's matchup with an undefeated streak of ten games in a row. In that span, the Owls are 5-0 against conference opponents and have placed themselves in first place in the MASCAC right above the Bears of Bridgewater. Westfield will look to star forward, Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.), to make her mark on this historic rivalry. Parker leads the MASCAC in goals(20), points(44), and shots(85) through 16 games. The Bears stat leader is Olivia Robarge where she has tallied ten goals, 23 points, and 49 shots on net. This is a rematch of last year's MASCAC championship game where the Owls won 2-1.
The last event on Alumni field on Saturday is a 3:30 start of field hockey as the Owls take on the Vikings of Salem State in a MASCAC matchup. Westfield is 5-2 in conference play this year, good for second best behind Fitchburg State. Westfield will look to X-factor, Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.), as Murphy is second in the MASCAC in goals (10), points (24), and shots (51). The Vikings stat leader is Mikayla Talbot, Talbot has five goals, ten points, and 16 shots on goal this season. This is a rematch of a game earlier this season where the Owls got a win in a penalty shootout. Westfield needs a win to stay in the race for first place in the MASCAC as the Owls find themselves a game back of Fitchburg.
Westfield State sees a very jam packed weekend next week as starting Friday, November 1 the Owls have volleyball and ice hockey games. As it rolls into Saturday, Westfield hosts four home matches. Women's swimming at Ely Pool, women's volleyball in the Woodward Center, men's soccer on Alumni Field at noon, and finally men's ice hockey at Amelia Park.
