Over 300 Owls Student-Athletes Recognized at Director of Athletics 3.0 Honor Roll
Westfield State University Athletics recognized over 300 student-athletes with the celebration of the annual Director of Athletics 3.0 ceremony held on Wednesday night during halftime of the Owls men’s basketball game.
WESTFIELD, Mass. — Westfield State University Athletics recognized over 300 student-athletes with the celebration of the annual Director of Athletics 3.0 ceremony held on Wednesday night during halftime of the Owls men's basketball game.
Westfield State Athletic Director Richard Lenfest spoke and recognized the groups and teams of student-athletes who were presented on the court during halftime.
"One of our mantra's is: we want to be the best versions of ourselves we can be everyday," Lenfest said. "In the classroom and in our craft as being the best student-athlete we can be."
Westfield State President Dr. Linda Thompson spoke next as she stated some major achievements across the student-athlete body, relaying "A future is bright for you to build upon your aspirations."
Out of 474 Westfield State varsity student-athletes, the 2024 fall semester grade-point average was 3.14. The semester GPA for Westfield's 474 varsity athletes in Fall 2024 was 3.17.
63% of the varsity student-athletes (300 of 474) completed the Fall 2024 semester with cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or better. On top of that, 66% of varsity student-athletes (314 of 474) earned a 3.0 or better semester grade point average in Fall 2024. An astounding 53 student-athletes also secured a semester GPA of 4.0 with President Thompson reiterating the number to show the academic excellence within the fall semester.
The women's cross country team lead the way as the team had the highest cumulative GPA of 3.61 and also the highest Fall 2024 semester GPA of 3.72. Men's ice hockey followed with a 3.51 cumulative GPA and a 3.54 semester GPA.
"What you learn from academics and athletics are skills that will help you successfully in the next chapter of your life," added President Thompson who was delighted to see the strength of the fall semester from both an academic and athletic standpoint.
The honorees received gift t-shirts along with a pizza reception after the ceremony. The Owls finished off the night 2-0 against Fitchburg State as the men's team won 99-95 and the women's team closed it out 117-60.
