WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State Owls field hockey team made a comeback in a 4-3 win over UMass Dartmouth on Saturday thanks to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Kaleigh Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.).
The Owls found themselves in a 1-0 hole early in the game when the third-year forward stepped up. Murphy found the back of the net less than a minute after the Corsairs opened the scoring. Murphy later broke up a 2-2 tie with a pair of goals, including the game winner late in the 4th quarter.
The hat trick on Saturday now increases Murphy's goal total to four on the year, placing her atop the MASCAC in goals (four) and points (nine) leaderboards.
This season, Murphy has started all three games for the Owls and is already over half her point total from a productive 2023 season where she appeared in all 20 games for Westfield, tying the team lead with seven goals while compiling 16 points.
Murphy will look to advance her scoring streak into Thursday's midweek home date against Mount Holyoke College at 7:00 P.M. from Alumni Field.
