2024-25 Westfield State Women's Swimming News

Westfield State’s Alexa Richter (Westfield, Mass.), Olivia Harkins (Woburn, Mass.), Molly Finnegan (Westport, Mass.), and Kara Banagan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) were the four Owls to represent Westfield State in the CSC All-District team.

After the conclusion of the winter sports season, Westfield State University Athletics continues to hold the top spot in the 2024-25 Howard C. Smith Cup standings, awarded annually to the institution with the best overall athletics program in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The Westfield State women’s swimming and diving team have been represented as eight Owls have been honored on the Little East Conference All-Academics team for the winter 2024-25 season.

Richter swam 28.31 in the 50 butterfly final, placing fourth at the meet, but trimming .35 off of the record mark set by Owls’ hall of famer Vanessa Morton in 2004.

Alexa Richter placed second in the 100 individual medley in 1:02.64, 0.14 seconds faster than Tobey Cronnell’s record time set March 1, 1992.

Westfield State University Athletics recognized over 300 student-athletes with the celebration of the annual Director of Athletics 3.0 ceremony held on Wednesday night during halftime of the Owls men’s basketball game.

Olivia Harkins showcased her skills in the 100-yard butterfly, securing a victory in the consolation final and finishing ninth overall by clocking in at 1:04.67.

Banagan posted scores of 162.50 in the prelims and 194.05 for a total of 356.55.

The Westfield State women’s swimming and diving team are off to compete at the Little East Championship meet this weekend from February 13 until February 16.

Westfield defeated Western New England, 129-98, but the Owls fell to UNE by a 191-61 final score.

The Owl’s swimming team defends Ely pool one last time this regular season on Saturday, February 1 for their last regular season meet of the 2024-25 season.

Westfield topped Elms College in the scoring, 142-89, and fell to host Smith, 222-56.
