Richter Sets School Record in 50 Butterfly at LEC Championship Meet
Richter swam 28.31 in the 50 butterfly final, placing fourth at the meet, but trimming .35 off of the record mark set by Owls’ hall of famer Vanessa Morton in 2004.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Alexa Richter broke a 20-year old school record in the 50 butterfly to lead the Owls efforts on Saturday at the 2025 Little East Conference Championships at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Mass.
The Owls sit in eighth place in the standings after Saturday's competitions. The meet wraps up on Sunday.

Westfield stacked up points in the event, as Olivia Harkins won the consolation final in 28.92 seconds, and Brooklyn Jones and Molly Finnegan also advanced to the consolation final where they were 15th and 16th.
Richter took second place honors in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:16.15.
Kara Banagan moved up to fifth in the women's 1-meter diving after sitting in seventh place after the preliminaries, finishing with a score of 347.87
Megan Baio swam 5:28.41 in the 400 IM placing 11th in the standings
Vivian Vanderpool competed in the consolation final in the 200 freestyle, Andrea Mattson in 100 backstroke, and Jackie Roccabruna in 100 breaststroke.
The Owls placed seventh in 200 medley relay with the quartet of Richter, Roccabruna, Harkins, and Jones stopping the watch in 2:01.69.
Entering the final day of competition, Keene State leads the meet with 557 points. Westfield sits eighth with 178 points, chasing Maine Maritime (217) WNE (217) and Husson (236) to advance in the standings.
