Regional, National Recognition for Gray and Hamilton
Westfield State University’s Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) and Brendon Hamilton (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech HS) have added more basketball honors after both were named as MASCAC basketball players of the week on Monday.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University's Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) and Brendon Hamilton (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech HS) have added more basketball honors after both were named as MASCAC basketball players of the week on Monday.
Gray was chosen as the New England Women's Basketball Association's Player of the Week, while Hamilton was selected for the D3Hoops.com national Team of the Week.
Hamilton averaged 21 points and 20 rebounds per game in a pair of Owls wins last week, including a 21-point-21 rebounds game in win at Elms College. For the season, Hamilton currently ranks fourth in the nation in Division III in rebounds per game, with 15.3 rebounds per game. The Owls big man is second on the team in scoring at 13.8 points per game, and averages 2.1 blocked shots per game. The Owls (7-2) will host Wheaton College on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodward Center.
Gray averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and 4.7 steals per game in a 2-1 week for the Owls.
She connected for 28 points and 13 rebounds in the Owls' 82-63 win over New England College, then added 19 points, nine rebounds and seven steals in a setback to Springfield College. Finally, she capped the week with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the Owls' 84-63 win over Mitchell College.
The Owls (2-6) play at Connecticut College on Tuesday evening, before coming home to host Western New England on Saturday.
