Women’s Lacrosse Downed by Conn. College

Mykenzie Black (Hopedale, Mass.) led the Owls with two goals and an assist while Kylie Buchanan (Westfield, Mass.) and Natalie DeMaio (Westwood, Mass.) each scored twice.
Coughlin and Elizabeth Gill (Hingham, Mass.) each tallied six points with Coughlin notching two assists to her four goals while Gill piled up three goals and three assists.
The Camels jumped out to a fast start, scoring the first six goals of the game including two goals within the first two minutes of the game. Coughlin and Aine Downey (Brookline, Mass.) both found the back of the net to make it 2-0 followed by four separate Conn. College players scoring afterwards to increase the lead. Westfield had minimal possession time in the opening quarter as the Camels held a 7-1 advantage in draw controls in the first.
With seven seconds remaining in the first, Emma Prattson (Tolland, Conn.) found a cutting Kylie Buchanan (Westfield, Mass.) for the Owls first goal of the game, then Prattson found herself on the scoring end of Westfield's second goal of the game on an assist from Black to trim the deficit to four goals early in the second quarter.
Conn. College responded by registering two goals within a minute of each other as Coughlin and Downey found the back of the net to push the lead back to six. The Owls scored back-to-back goals later in the half to bring the deficit to five goals, but a late marker from Gill with eight seconds left sent the Camels into halftime with a 10-4 lead.
The lead escalated in the third quarter with Conn. College holding Westfield scoreless in the frame to put the game out of reach.
Sydney Smith (Dalton, Mass.) made six saves while Kara Banagan (Niskayuna, N.Y.) made three stops for the Owls. Ava Virga (Watertown, N.Y.) secured her sixth win of the season while making four saves. The Camels owned a 33-14 shot edge.
Westfield State remains at home for their next game as the Owls host Mass. Maritime for the MASCAC season opener at 6:00 P.M. from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass.
