Lee Wins Two Events in Owls Outdoor Opener
Westfield State junior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) secured the top spot in the triple jump and the 400 as the Owls women’s track and field team opened the 2025 outdoor season at the Wesleyan Swanson Invitational from Middletown, Conn. on Saturday afternoon.

After a strong indoor season, Lee continued to deliver top marks in the first outdoor meet, leaping to a mark of 11.42 meters in the triple jump. She ran a sub-minute time in the 400, the only athlete to do so in the event, at a time of 59.23 seconds. Lee also placed second in the long jump with a final jump of 5.51 meters serving as her best leap of the day.
Lee's success did not stop there as she was also one of four Owls athletes to finish in first in the 4x100 meter relay as she joined Devin Whalen (Marblehead, Mass.), Jailene Felix (Westfield, Mass.), and Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) on the Westfield "A" team. The quartet earned a time of 50.24 seconds.
Junior distance runner Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) started the outdoor season with a second-place tally in the 5000, crossing the tape with a time of 19:00.46. Another notable performance in the Owls distance events came from Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) who's time of 39:43.03 in the 10000 secured her spot in third place.
Five Owls turned in top five finishes in different events, three coming in track and events with the other totaled in field.
Whalen placed fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.29 seconds while Parker was fifth in the 100 meter dash in a finishing time of 13.04 seconds.
Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) added a fifth place performance in the 800 in 2:31.28 and Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) earned fifth in the 1500, clocking in a time of 4:56.58.
Emily Ottomaniello (Agawam, Mass.) turned in a fifth-place leap at the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 1.43 meters.
Westfield State will compete at Corsair Classic in their next meet on Saturday, March 29 from UMass Dartmouth.
