Volleyball Wins MASCAC Opener

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –    A trio of Owls players knocked down a dozen kills apiece as Westfield State topped Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 3-1. in the MASCAC women's volleyball opener for both teams in North Adams, Mass. on Tuesday night.

Westfield is now 1-0 in the league and 5-9 overall, while MCLA is 3-11 and 0-1 in the MASCAC.  The set scores were 25-27, 25-13, 25-16 and 25-21.

Westfield's Emma Nihill (Chandler, Az./Basha), Sarah Bingham (Reno, Nev./Wooster) and Sydney Cummins (Nicholasville, Ky./East Jessamine) each registered 12 kills, with Bingham adding five blocks.

The Owls got contributions up and down the lineup card, as Hanna Nihill added nine kills, Emily Washkalavitch (Oxford, Pa.)  served seven aces, and Chloe Schuld (Sycamore, Ill.) led the Owls with 21 digs.  Cummins added 16 digs in a fine all around performance.   Julia Dangel-Garcia  (Ashland, Mass.) and Morgan Dority (Walpole, Mass.) each dished out 24 assists

Westfield will step out of conference for a tri-match at Eastern Connecticut with Keene State on Saturday.   Westfield will be back home to host Keene at the Woodward Center on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
