WESTFIELD, Mass. — After capping off a MASCAC Championship run, two Westfield State men's soccer Owls players earned Division III Academic All-District honors.
Jacoby Authier (Holyoke, Mass.) a senior defensive back and Sonny Mazza (East Longmeadow, Mass.) a junior striker took home the honors for the Owls.
To achieve the highly sought after honors, a student athlete must fill the requirements of maintaining a 3.5 grade point average or better, they must have earned sophomore status or higher, and competed in at least 90 percent of games or started in 60 percent of their teams games.
Authier has been a three year starter for Westfield, in that time he has accumulated two points from the defensive position in the form of assists. Authier had one assist this year that was on a game tying netter from Colbey Andrade (Falmouth, Mass.) in a game against Salve Regina. Authier has started 42 games over three years and has helped win a MASCAC Championship in that span.
Mazza has been a two-year starter for the Owls as in 32 games started for Westfield, Mazza has accumulated 19 points, six goals, and seven assists. Mazza had ten points this past season with his three goals coming against Elms, Plymouth, and Bridgewater. Mazza was the difference maker in the Bridgewater game as they won 1-0 against reigning MASCAC Champions.
