WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State's Vawn Lord scored 24 points as the Owls used a big second half to pull away from Framingham State to win 73-58 in a MASCAC men's basketball game in the league-opener for both teams at the Woodward Center on Saturday afternoon.

Westfield improves to 9-5, 1-0 MASCAC, while Framingham is now 1-13 overall and 0-1 in the MASCAC.

The Owls led 38-30 at the half, then used a sustained 23-8 run, capped by a Moody Bey putback to extend the lead to as many as 23 points, 61-38 with 10:52 left in the game.

Lord finished 7-18 shooting from the floor and 10-12 at the foul line. Brendon Hamilton added 14 points and 11 rebounds for Westfield, with Marcus Collins adding 11 points and seven rebounds.

Cameren McCloud-Thomas led Framingham with 20 points and eight rebounds.  Tyri Hampton added 18 points and nine rebounds.

Westfield State returns to action on Tuesday, January 14 with a conference game at Worcester State.

Framingham will next host Worcester State on Thursday, Jan. 16.
