Women’s Cross Country Deliver Strong Performance at UMass Dartmouth Invitational
Tealei Chandonnet paced the Owls with a 61st place finish at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, a meet featuring 45 teams, and a total of 346 individual runners.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) paced the Owls with a 61st place finish as the Owls finished 14th overall at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, a meet featuring 45 total teams from Division One, Two, and Three and 346 individual runners.
The Owls placed third among Division III institutions with 490 points, trailing only Connecticut College (159 points) and Keene State (362 points) while placing ahead of Mount Holyoke, Brandeis, and Trinity (Conn.) who placed behind the Owls in succession. 12 of the 14 teams ahead of the Owls were Division One or Division Two institutions with Ivy-League Brown University winning the meet.
Battling windy and rainy conditions for the duration of the meet, Chandonnet raced to the finish line with a time of 19:19.97, setting a personal record by 31 seconds as the first Owls athlete to cross the tape.
Junior Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) finished 78th for Westfield with a six-second personal best time of 19:32.39. Junior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) raced to both a personal record time and a course-record top personal time, recording a time of 20:17.07 to set her overall PR by 39 seconds.
Alison Downin (Hudson, Mass.) and Rebecca Patel (Belchertown, Mass.) joined the PR list on the afternoon for the Owls with Downin shattering her previous time by 1:42 while Patel came in 37 seconds under her previous top mark.
Westfield State women's cross country will partake in the Keene State Invitational on Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 A.M.
