Sylven, Stevens Recognized By MASCAC
Westfield State cross country picked up a pair of awards in the final week of the 2024 season
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State cross country picked up a pair of awards in the final week of the 2024 season as sophomore Nate Sylven was selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference men's runner of the week, and sophomore Reese Stevens was tabbed as the league's women's rookie of the week.
Sylven was the first man across the line for the Owls at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional meet on Saturday. He clocked a personal-best time of 25:57 on the 8,000 meter course at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn.
Sylven bounced back from an injury early in the season to placed 42nd overall at the regional.
Stevens snared the women's rookie of the week honors with a 77th place showing at the regional meet. She tripped the women's 6,000 meter course in a time of 23:36. She was third among the Owls seven scoring runners and helped the Owl women place 14th at the meet.
