WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior Eliza Lee tallied a sixth-place finish in the triple jump as the Owls competed at the All-New England Division III Championships from UMass Amherst on Saturday.
Lee recorded the second furthest leap of any Division III athlete participating, tallying a mark of 11.57 meters. Lee is currently 31st on the Division III national performance list in both the long jump and triple jump.
Senior John Nekitopoulos (West Springfield, Mass.) was seventh in the 1500, posting a time of 3:59.42 to register a top ten finish and place within the scoring of the event.
Sophomore Ali Warsame (Chelsea, Mass.) earned 12th place in the triple jump totaling a distance of 12.86 meters. Warsame is currently positioned to qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships as his leap of 14.62 meters at last week's New England Championships has him 20th nationally with the top 22 qualifying for the NCAA Championships.
Junior Johnny Ware (Wilmington, Mass.) was 11th in the javelin throw at 53.05 meters as he currently owns the 34th spot on the national performance list in the event after his toss at the Wesleyan Swanson Invitational early in the year.
Sophomore Daniel Shea (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished 11th in the long jump at a mark 6.69 meters.
Warsame and the rest of the Owls will have two more chances to improve on their positioning within the national ranks as Westfield will have two last chance postseason qualifiers on May 14 and 15 from Williams College and MIT. The NCAA Division III Championships will be held at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio beginning on Thursday, May 22.
