Men's Basketball Rolls Past Sarah Lawrence in Season Opener, 87-63

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Justin Rennis scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Westfield State to an 87-63 win over Sarah Lawrence University in the men's basketball season opener at the WestConn Tip-Off tournament at Western Connecticut State University.
 
Rennis led a balanced Owls attack, as he was the lone Owl to score in double figures.  15 players scored for Westfield with Kuany Teng and Brendan Keaveny each scoring nine points.  Brendon Hamilton added five points and 17 rebounds for the Owls.
 
Westfield used a 19-6 run midway through the first half to pull away from the Griffins.   Westfield led 42-23 at the half and was never threatened in the second half.
 
Xiyuan Zhang led Sarah Lawrence with 17 points.   
 
Westfield State advances to tomorrow's championship game, where they will face host WestConn at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
 
WestConn dispatched Plattsburgh (NY) State 80-69 in the other first round game.
