Women’s Cross Country Reign Supreme on All-Conference List
After winning their fourth consecutive MASCAC Championship, Westfield State women’s cross country dominated the league’s 2024 All-Conference list as eight of the ten spots went to Owls’ athletes after this past Saturday’s MASCAC Championship meet from Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster, Mass.
WESTFIELD, Mass. – After winning their fourth consecutive MASCAC Championship, Westfield State women's cross country dominated the league's 2024 All-Conference list as eight of the ten spots went to Owls' athletes after this past Saturday's MASCAC Championship meet from Doyle Conservation Center in Leominster, Mass.
Receiving placement on the MASCAC All-Conference team were: Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.), Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.), Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.), Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.), Sophia Rebenciuc (Southwick, Mass.), Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.), Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.), and Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.).
Stevens was named the MASCAC Rookie of the Year after finishing first out of all rookie runners, placing sixth overall with a time of 19:27.51. Westfield State women's cross country head coach Marlee Berg was also named the BSN Sports Coach of the Year after winning three straight conference titles under her leadership.
Westfield ran 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-10 and scored a miniscule 20 points to beat Bridgewater State by 42 points for the league title.
Chandonnet, a two-time MASCAC All-Conference athlete, led a stacked Owls pack, finishing second overall with a time of 18:56.16.
Kelly and Hamel are receiving all-conference conference honors for a third straight season with Kelly finishing third overall (19:05.83) and Hamel placing fourth (19:20.45).
Kennedy and Lee joined Chandonnet as two-time MASCAC All-Conference selections with Kennedy grabbing a top five spot in 19:23.66 while Lee posted a tenth-place mark with a time of 20:06.05.
LeCours was named to her first All-Conference cross country team with an eighth place finish in 19:39.39.
Joining Rebenciuc as a top ten rookie was Stevens who was one spot behind Rebenciuc by earning seventh in a time of 19:34.79.
Westfield State women's cross country will have an additional week to prepare for their next meet which will be the 2024 Division III Mideast Championships on Saturday, November 16 from Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, Conn.
