Owls Tumble on Day Two at Bonnie May Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's volleyball dropped a pair of games as part of the Bonnie May Invitational, falling in five sets against Western New England (11-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 9-15) after being swept by Smith College (25-12, 25-19, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon.

GAME 2 vs Western New England

After losing a hard-fought five-set game to Redlands, California on Friday night, the Owls found themselves in another final set against the Golden Bears.

Western New England (3-4) controlled the fifth frame, using a .429 hitting percentage to grind out a 15-9 set victory to seal the match.

Senior Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.) had another productive day for the Owls, leading the team in kills (11) and digs (17) for the second time in three games.

Hannah Nihill (Chandler, Ariz.) added nine kills and four total blocks while Julia Dangel-Garcia (Ashland, Mass.) and Morgan Dority (Walpole, Mass.) split the facilitating duties with 16 and 15 assists.

Allie Hill (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) racked up 16 digs with Emily Washkalavitch (Oxford, Pa,) and Michaela O'Connor (Shrewsbury, Mass.) each supplied double digit digs.

Alissa Hawes (Tupelo, Miss.) fronted the Golden Bears' attack with a game-high 20 kills, including the match-ending slam. Hailey Sell (Glen Allen, Va.) and Taylor Geist (Denver, N.C.) supplied 48 of the team's 53 assists.

GAME 1 vs Smith

Five Owls compiled four or more kills in game one with McAndrews and Sarah Bingham (Reno, Nev.) pacing the squad with five each. Dority added 12 assists while McAndrews and Hill registered nine digs apiece.

The Pioneers (3-4) saw 15 different players produce a kill in a balanced effort which saw a total of 41 kills in the match. Nathalie Pak (Lexington, Mass.) facilitated on 16 kills.

Westfield State (0-7) will travel to Keene State for their next match on Tuesday at 7:00 P.M.
