WESTFIELD, Mass. – The Westfield State women's volleyball team defeated Fitchburg State in straight sets (25-10, 25-12, 25-12) on Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the Woodward Center.
The win brings the Owls to 3-1 in the conference and 7-10 overall, while the Falcons slip to 0-4 in the MASCAC and 3-11 overall.
Westfield was paced by Ashley Crowley's (Billerica, Mass./ Billerica) match-high 11 kills and Julia Dangel-Garcia's (Ashland, Mass./ Ashland) 22 assists.
Garcia and Allie Hill (St. Clair Shores, Mich./ Lakeview) led the Owls defensively with eight digs in the win.
Fitchburg State's Stephanie Sardella (Billerica, Mass./ Billerica Memorial) had a team-high eight kills in the setback. Emily Gelinas (Westfield, Mass./ Westfield) connected on seven assists for the Falcons.
Westfield State controlled the match throughout and carried a 13-3 advantage in service aces.
Both teams hit the road for conference matchups this weekend on Saturday, 0ct. 15. The Owls travel to Bridgewater State for a noon start and the Falcons take on Framingham State at 1:30 p.m.
