WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's soccer will open the Saturday festivities as part of Homecoming Weekend as the Owls host Fitchburg State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference tilt from Alumni Field in Westfield, Mass. at 11:00 A.M.
The Owls have not lost a match in over a month as Westfield is 6-0-2 in their last eight games which includes a 4-0 mark against conference opponents during that span. The Falcons enter the game with an overall record of 1-9-3 and a 1-2-1 conference record. The Falcons have played tightly contested MASCAC games so far this season, with all three decisions separated by one goal to go along with a 1-1 draw against Bridgewater State.
Westfield is currently in first place in the league standings while Fitchburg sits in a three-way tie for fourth place. Both teams have three conference matches remaining.
Last season, Westfield defeated Fitchburg 2-0 in their only meeting of the season with Jaida Cochran (Middleboro, Mass.) and Kiana Muratsuka (Mililani, Hawaii) scoring for the Owls. The two teams also met in the 2023 MASCAC Championship game with the Owls holding off the Falcons in a 1-0 win at Alumni Field.
The Owls lead the MASCAC in goals scored per game at 2.71 and are also the stingiest team in the league, allowing just 1.34 goals per game. The Falcons have struggled from an offensive standpoint as Fitchburg is last in the conference, scoring five goals in 13 games this season. Defensively, Fitchburg owns a 2.54 goals against average, but have allowed just four goals in four league games.
Westfield is led by record-setting senior Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) who is tied for fifth in all of Division III with a MASCAC-leading 17 goals. Her 38 points is also a league high. Parker's career point total is currently two points shy of 200 as her 82 career goals and 32 assists bring her total to 198 points.
Muratsuka is second on the Owls with five goals and has recorded 16 points, pulling her into a tie for second on the team with junior Morgan Berthiaume (Webster, Mass.). Berthiaume is tied for the MASCAC lead with eight assists, chipping in four goals as well. The Owls have ten different goal scorers so far this season.
On defense, the Owls are anchored by Cochran, a two-time MASCAC Defensive Player of the Year recipient. Westfield has also benefitted from the strong two-way play of first-year midfielder Kylie Tomasetti (Northborough, Mass.) who's played in the back while also supplying three goals and two assists.
In goal, junior Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) has posted a 1.38 goals against average which leads the MASCAC. In nine starts, Robak is 4-3-2 with an .813 save percentage. Senior Sarah Fuller (Weymouth, Mass.) has started the last two games for Westfield, recording a 2-0 record with a 1.60 goals against average on the season.
2023 MASCAC All-Conference forward Adrianna Westcott (Sayreville, N.J.) is the Falcons team leader with two goals while 2023 All-Conference defender Taylor Senecal (Rutland, Mass.) fortifies the Fitchburg defense. Madison Dawkins (Haverhill, Mass.) has been the Falcons primary goalkeeper for the season, starting in 12 of 13 games while owning a 2.70 goals against average and .767 save percentage.
