WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State graduate student Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) tallied the lone Owls goal in a 1-1 draw against Kean University on Saturday afternoon from the Drew Tournament at Ranger Stadium in Madison, N.J. With the tie, Westfield's record stands at 1-1-1 while Kean moves to 0-2-2.

After a scoreless first half which saw the Owls outshoot the Cougars 8-2, Westfield State committed a foul in the box, setting up a penalty kick goal by Kean sophomore Sophia Lang (Northport, N.Y.).

The Owls responded with relentless pressure beginning with sophomore Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) who fired a shot on net that was saved by a Cougars defender, temporarily keeping Westfield off the scoreboard.

At the 58-minute mark, the Owls broke through with the Parker-Rennich tandem striking for the equalizer. Parker crossed a ball from the left corner into the box where goalkeeper Julia Masucci (Spotswood, N.J.) deflected the ball to Rennich where she deposited her third official goal of the season.

From that point forward, Westfield was unable to find the back of the net again despite holding sizeable advantages in shots (23-4 and 15-2 in the second half) and shots on goal (12-1). The Owls made one final charge in the final five minutes, but consecutive shots from Rennich and first-year Tori Dodge (North Canaan, Conn.) were stopped by Masucci. She finished the game with 11 saves, with four of those coming in the final ten minutes of regulation.

Westfield State will continue play in the Drew Tournament tomorrow where the Owls will face-off against Coast Guard at noon.
