WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore pitcher Emily Arredono (Woburn, Mass.) tossed a perfect game in game 1, and the Owls got a grand slam home run from sophomore Sarah Meunier (Frontier/Deerfield, Mass.) in game 2 as the Owls swept a MASCAC softball doubleheader from Mass Maritime Academy by scores of 16-0 and 11-1.

Arredondo struck out six as the game was shortened to five innings by MASCAC rule with the Owls ahead by more than eight runs after five innings.

The Owls Kaitlynn prophet had three hits, three runs scored and three RBI, and senior catcher Caitlin Hughes (Whitman-Hanson/Hanson, Mass.) rapped out a pair of hits and drove in three runs.

Buccaneers starter Malarie Pittsley (2-10) took the loss.

In the nightcap, Meunier's line shot to left field in the bottom of the first inning would be all the offense that Owls starter Emily Woodworth (W, 4-4) would need.

Colleen Hughes (Whitman-Hanson/Hanson, Mass.) was the lone Owl with two hits in the game, driving in sister Caitlin twice.  Caitlin scored three runs in game two, and nine different Owls collected at least one hit.

Westfield improves to 8-4 in the MASCAC and 11-19 overall.  Westfield sits in third place in the conference standings, having won six straight games in league play.

The Owls celebrated their senior day before the twin bill, recognizing seniors Maddie Keigwin, Kayla Soucie, Caitlin Hughes, Karly Mastello and Bri Tortota.

Mass Maritime drops to 4-20 overall and 0-12 in the MASCAC.  The Buccaneers got their lone run in the third inning as starting pitcher Jenna Nalette (L, 2-7) delivered a single through the left side to score Jordan Currie.  Pittsley added two hits, including a double in game 2.
