Volleyball Competes at Trinity Bantam Invitational

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) crushed 13 kills in the tournament opener against Simmons College, but the Owls finished up 0-3 in a trio of matches against tough competition at the Trinity Bantam Tournament in Hartford on Friday and Saturday.

Westfield fell to Simmons 3-1 on Friday night, then dropped matches to Eastern Connecticut by a 3-1 score and then the host Bantams 3-0 on Saturday.

Julia Dangel-Garcia (Ashfield, Mass.)  set 21 assists in the opener against Simmons.

On Saturday, Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.) rapped 13 kills with 15 digs and Crowley added 11 kills as Eastern Connecticut and the Owls split the first two games, 25-21, 26-28, before the Warriors closed out 25-22 and 26-24 in a tightly played match.    Dangel-Garcia handed out 27 assists and Jess Haradon (Mansfield, Mass.) finished with a team high 19 digs.

Trinity (2-2) powered past the Owls 25-21, 25-15, 25-17 in the tournament finale.

Westfield is 0-7 after  a rugged early-season schedule in preparation for MASCAC conference play.  Westfield will have its league opener on Tuesday with a match at Worcester State University.
