WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State men's and women's track and field will participate in the 2025 MASCAC Outdoor Championship meet from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Mass. tomorrow beginning at 11:00 A.M.
EVENT SCHEDULE / LIVE RESULTS / VIDEO
Women's Track and Field:
The Owls women's track and field team looks to defend their outdoor title and were selected as the 2025 preseason favorites (24pts. – 4 first-place votes) to win the title again in a narrow margin over Bridgewater State (22pts. – 2 first-place votes).
Owls in field events:
Defending her MASCAC title in the long jump is junior Eliza Lee (Walpole, Mass.) who's seed mark of 11.57 meters trumps the competition in the event. She is currently 25th in Division III in the outdoor qualifying list in the event. Lee also projects to be the favorite in the long jump, but by a slim 0.01 hundredths of a meter margin ahead of Worcester State's Ciara Adu-Addo.
Senior Bronwyn Pinsly (Las Vegas, Nev.) and junior Emily Ottomaniello (Agawam, Mass.) will also be in search of back-to-back titles in their respective events. Pinsly holds the top seed mark in the discus toss entering Friday's championship, posting a 38.01m launch during the season. Alyssa Caputo of Framingham State projects to be Pinsly's toughest challenger, recording a seed distance of 35.44 meters. Ottomaniello will be the sole competitor in the pole vault.
Owls on the track:
The Owls will have three 2024 MASCAC All-Conference athletes participating on the track in Lee, Rebecca Patel (Belchertown, Mass.), and Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.). Lee won the 800 last year but has transitioned into one of the Owls sprinter slots this season and has been extremely successful. One event worth watching will be Lee in the 400 where she has the second fastest seed time as one of two athletes with a sub-minute time. The other is Kiara Abrantes of Bridgewater State which will serve as an event worth noting for the overall team scoring between the two sides. Lee will also attempt to hold off Bears' athlete Bella Grover in the 400m hurdles as both project to be within a second of one another crossing the tape.
Patel (41:09.19 seed) won the 10,000 at last year's championship but will have a pair of runners in Katelyn Buban (39:38.17) of Framingham and Skye Goba (40:41.95) of Fitchburg challenging for the top spot.
Kelly won the 3000-meter steeplechase last year and is favored to recapture all-conference honors in the event again this year as her 12:01.61 seed is more than a minute faster than her two closest competitors.
The Owls will have the ability to rack up points in the 1500 as nine Owls athletes will be participating in the event. At the top of the seed line, an important matchup between Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) and Bridgewater State's Naomi Cass will unfold with Cass (4:52.42) holding a slight edge over Chandonnet (4:56.58) entering the event. Chandonnet and Cass also enter tomorrow as the two fastest times in the 5000 which will take place later Friday afternoon.
Another Owls vs Bears finish is likely to play out in the 800 with Olivia Downin of Bridgewater holding less than a second seed time over Reese Stevens (Agawam, Mass.) and less than three seconds apart from both Molly Kennedy (West Springfield, Mass.) and Brynne LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.).
The Owl women swept the trio of relay races at last year's conference championship meet. Keep an eye on all three events this year with the Owls boasting a surge of newcomers and veteran conference champions.
Men's Track and Field:
Last season, the Owls men's track and field team placed second at the 2024 MASCAC Championship meet and were also selected to finish second in the 2025 conference title meet according to the MASCAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Owls (13pts. – 1 first-place vote) trailed Bridgewater State (16pts. – 4 first-place votes) in the preseason rankings.
Owls in field events:
Junior thrower Johnny Ware (Wilmington, Mass.) joins a stacked field at the javelin which features four of the top 20 athletes in Division III in the event. Ware logged a toss of 59.72 meters at the Wesleyan Swanson Invitational on March 22, earning the 20th longest mark in the event on the national performance list. Ware will be up against three additional national powers including Corey Stalters of Bridgewater who leads all of Division III with a launch of 68.40 meters.
The Owls will look to rack up points in the sandpits after strong seasons from sophomores' Daniel Shea (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Ali Warsame (Chelsea, Mass.). Shea owns a 6.89m qualifying leap in the long jump while Warsame is in position to compete for the all-conference nod in the triple jump where his 13.26m jump is second to Michael Mireku (13.42m) of Worcester State.
Senior Dylan Clark (Bellows Falls, Vt.) will be competing for several different titles in the shot put, discus, and the hammer throw in an effort to compile points for the Owls.
Owls on the track:
2024 two-time conference champion Nathan Sylven (Wrentham, Mass.) will front the Owls attack on the track as he was last year's MASCAC champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the 5,000. Sylven posts a strong 9:42.21 seed in the steeplechase and his 15:25.24 seed in the 5k tops the list ahead of teammate Scott Porter (Boylston, Mass.). The duo will look to stay ahead of Kenneth Goodwin of Bridgewater who is the only other runner in the field with a sub-16 minute time.
In the 1500, John Nekitopoulos (Chicopee, Mass.) projects to be the favorite in the event with a seed time of 3:59.51 as the junior will look to hold off Kevin McBirney of Bridgewater in an effort to claim a MASCAC title. McBirney and Nekitopoulos will go up against one another again in the 800 with McBirney holding the top seed time over Nekitopoulos and Rowan Gottshall (Simsbury, Conn.).
A photo finish could be in store at the 400 as impact first-year sprinter Theo Yetman (Franklin, Mass.) holds the fastest time of two sections. Yetman's 49.90 seed time is milliseconds ahead of Stephen Spofford of the Bears while JJ Tauscher (Easthampton, Mass.) figures to be in the mix as well with his 51.25 seeding.
Sophomore Jordan Stallworth (Chicopee, Mass.) will look to edge out two Bears sprinters in the 100 with Stallworth owning a time of 11.23 seconds compared to Matt Mooney's seed-leading time of 11.00 seconds.
Weather Forecast:
