WESTFIELD, Mass. –Westfield State men's basketball swept the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors as both Lid Moreland (Bridgeport, Conn.) and Kenney Rogers (Springfield, Mass.) received league recognition.
Moreland secured the MASCAC Player of the Week while Rogers earned back-to-back conference Rookie of the Week honors as part of the Owls midweek victory against Emmanuel.
Moreland posted 23 points in the Owls 99-89 win over Emmanuel College, finishing with a 57 percent shooting night from the floor, knocking down his only three point field goal attempt as well. The senior is averaging 17.5 points per game, fifth best in the conference while shooting 43.8 percent from the floor, good for 11th in the MASCAC.
Rogers is now back-to-back Rookie of the Week in the MASCAC as he posted 22 points along with 13 rebounds, topped off with a pair of steals in the Owls win over Emmanuel. Rogers is now averaging 19.7 points per game, second in all the MASCAC. Rogers is averaging 19.7 points per game, over five rebounds and shooting over 80 percent from the free throw line in just three weeks of college basketball. Rogers has had four straight games of at least 22 points and twice over ten rebounds in that stretch.
Moreland, Rogers and the Owls return to action on Tuesday, November 26 at 6:00 p.m. as they head to Anna Maria and then return home after Thanksgiving on Tuesday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. to host Elms College.
