WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior middle blocker Sarah Bingham (Reno, Nev.) continued her incredible defensive efforts this season as she was named the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after the Owls locked up the MASCAC regular season title this past week.
Bingham posted four blocks (three assists and one solo), two digs, and eight kills in the Owls 3-0 regular season finale sweep over Fitchburg State on Thursday afternoon. The victory gave Westfield an outright MASCAC regular season title after posting a perfect 7-0 record in the league.
Bingham paces the entire conference in total blocks this season, leading the way with 84 total blocks along with a league-leading 31 solo blocks. The senior middle blocker has also displayed her offensive skills as well this season as she has totaled 122 kills which is fourth on the Owls.
Westfield State enters conference tournament week as the number one overall seed in the MASCAC as the Owls will host fourth-seeded Worcester State University in a MASCAC semifinal game on Thursday at 7:00 P.M. from the Woodward Center in Westfield, Mass.
