WESTFIELD, Mass. — Westfield State volleyball first-year athlete Sydney Cummins (Nicholasville, Ky.) was once again awarded the MASCAC Rookie of the Week and received the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week honors as part of a successful 2-1 week for the Owls.
For Cummins, this was her sixth time she has been recognized in the league's weekly honors this season as she has now been awarded Rookie of the Week six times in her first season as well as notching two additional Offensive Player of the Week awards.
Cummins helped produce a 2-0 week against MASCAC opponents as she posted 13.5 kills per game (4.50 per set) and 13.5 digs with a .205 hitting percentage and two service aces. She led the Owls in kills in both conference matches including a 14-kill effort in a three-set win over Worcester State which helped Westfield clinch the top seed and home court advantage throughout the upcoming MASCAC Tournament.
Cummins is fourth in the MASCAC in kills per set (2.61), fourth in total kills (209), and fourth in total attacks (710) as she leads the Owls in all three categories. Cummins has also logged the second-most digs on the team at 211.
Westfield State has one final regular season game remaining against Fitchburg State on Thursday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Woodward Center before the Owls will prepare for a postseason run starting the following Thursday.
