Westfield, Mass. – The Westfield State volleyball team (0-4) lost the opening match of the day to Keene State (25-12, 26-24, 25-16) and lost the final match of the tournament against Brandies University (25-21, 25-20, 25-23) at the Springfield Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In game one, sophomore Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.) led the Owls in kills (10) and digs (12), while Julia Dangel-Garcia (Ashland, Mass.) added 22 assists.
Sydney Johnson (Brentwood, N.H.) led a balanced attack for Keene State (3-0), leading the team in kills (10). Keene recorded 41 kills overall in the match and eight players on the roster recorded at least two kills.
In game two, the Owls kept it close in each set, but Brandies pulled out a late game-winning run in set three by recording seven of the final ten points to close out the match. Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) compiled a team high nine kills while McAndrews and Jess Haradon (Mansfield, Mass.) produced 16 and 14 digs apiece.
Lara Verstovsek (Bellaire, Texas) had a team high 12 kills for Brandeis (2-2) as the Judges picked up their first win of the tournament.
The Owls next match will be the home opener in a rematch against Keene State at 6:00 P.M. at the Woodward Center in Westfield, Massachusetts.
