WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore forward Delaney Parker (Orange, Mass.) registered a pair of goals as the Owls shutout Plymouth State 5-0 in a non-conference game from Plymouth, New Hampshire on Wednesday evening.
Westfield improves to 12-3-1 on the season after winning their fifth straight game. Plymouth slides to 5-8-3 overall.
The Owls jumped out to an early lead as graduate student Jenn Rennich (Bedford, Mass.) tallied her conference-leading 18th goal of the season on a dish from senior Kylie Murphy (Haverhill, Mass.) to put Westfield up 1-0. Rennich finished the night with three points, advancing her program-record point total to 133 which is 14 points better than the next highest mark set by Kayley Miller (2010-12).
Parker followed with her 12th goal of the year on a feed from Rennich at 16:05 to double the Owls lead. Six minutes later, Parker tallied her second of the night with Murphy collecting her second assist to give Westfield a quick 3-0 lead midway through the first half. The two-goal effort pushed Parker over the 100 career-point mark, racking up 43 goals and 16 assists through just 37 games.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Murphy capped off a four-point night with her fourth goal of the campaign, set up on a feed from Emily Ottomaniello (Agawam, Mass.).
The Owls put an exclamation point on the match in the 82nd minute as Emily Landry (Agawam, Mass.) scored her first goal of the season to solidify the 5-0 final outcome.
Senior Lauryn Davis (Templeton, Mass.) got her second-straight start in net for the Owls after missing eight games due to injury. She picked up her fifth win in six starts, collecting two saves in the first half. First-year Julia Robak (Chicopee, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Fuller (Weymouth, Mass.) split time in net for the second half, totaling three saves to preserve the Owls ninth shutout of the year (fourth in the last five games).
Westfield State will wrap up the regular season on the road as the Owls travel to Salem State for a MASCAC game on Saturday at 3:00 P.M. in an effort to obtain a perfect conference regular season record for the second consecutive season.
