Coast Guard Scuttles Owls, 90-57

WESTFIELD, Mass.  -  Kelly Hagerty scored 30 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Coast Guard Academy sailed away in the second half for a 90-57 win over Westfield State in a non-conference game at the Roland Gymnasium in New London on Saturday afternoon.

Westfield trailed by three points, 39-36 at the half.

Coast Guard improves to 6-2 overall while Westfield State is now 3-4 on the season.

The Owls weathered a tough shooting day, connecting on just 3 of 24 tries from beyond the three-point arc.

Westfield went ice cold from the floor in the third quarter, missing their first eight shots from the floor and connecting on just 3 of 17 shots in the frame, as Coast Guard extended it's lead to 61-46 after three quarters.

Olivia Hadla led the Owls with 11 points.  Jordan Grant scored 10 and her six rebounds matched Jess Gardner for the team lead.

The 6-0 Hagerty finished 13-19 from the floor. The academy got 15 points from Dorothy Stotts, 13 points and nine assists from Kira Wood, and 12 points and 13 rebounds from 6-2 forward Glory Blethen.

The Bears shot 53.4 percent from the floor for the game, and outrebounded the Owls 60-43.

Westfield will be back in action on Thursday, hosting Emerson in a non-conference game at the Woodward Center at 7:00 p.m.
