WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State senior forward Jordan Grant (Gray, Maine) earned conference honors this past week, securing the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for her performance in the Puerto Rico Clasico over the holiday break.
Gray averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and three assists while shooting an efficient 57% from the floor in a pair of victories for Westfield in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.
She posted 22 points, six rebounds, and two steals in their tournament-opening 84-76 win over McMurry, handing them just their second loss of the season. Grant followed the stellar performance by filling the stat sheet in an 84-83 victory over Rochester, collecting 24 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and five steals which included a three-point play with 5.5 seconds left to tie and take the lead for the Owls.
Through 13 games, Grant is second in the MASCAC in scoring, leading the Owls at 17.2 points per game. She is second on the team in rebounds, averaging 5.6 per contest. The senior forward is also closing in on a milestone as she is 139 points away from reaching the 1,000-point career scoring mark.
Westfield State (7-6) will look to carry their momentum from the Puerto Rico Clasico into conference play as the Owls open league action against Framingham State on the road on Wednesday at 5:30. The two teams will be meeting for the first time since last season's MASCAC Semifinal matchup, with familiar faces on both sides.
