WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Junior guard Chelsea Moussette (Hampshire/Southampton, Mass.) posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 assists to lead Westfield State to a 94-83 win over Keene State in the Owls women's basketball season opener at the Spaulding Gymnasium in Keene, N.H. on Tuesday night.

Westfield (1-0), the nation's highest scoring team last season, picked up where they left off.

The Owls had four players score in double-figures, as sophomore Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) and senior Lucy Barrett (Mt. Greylock/Williamstown, Mass.) each scored 19, and Kierra McCarthy (Ludlow, Mass.) added 14.

Westfield led 41-39 after a back and forth first half, then pulled away with a 10-0 run that spanned the end of the third quarter and start of the fourth.   Moussette drained a three-pointer to close the third quarter to spark the run, and the Westfield led 87-69 after a Siobhan Moriarty (Danvers, Mass.) free throw with 6:30 left in the game.

Westfield State shot 12-34 from three point range, and forced 33 turnovers from Keene (1-2), which Westfield converted into 33 points.

Keene State was led by 21 points from Samira Sangare, and 18 from Emily McPadden.

WSU will be back in action on Saturday, when they face Pine Manor College at the Emmanuel Tip-Off Tournament in Boston.
