Coast Guard Sinks Women's Soccer, 3-2 in O.T.

WESTFIELD, Mass. – A free-kick goal seven minutes into overtime was a heartbreaker for the Westfield State women's soccer team, as the U.S. Coast Guard Academy sunk the Owls 3-2 in overtime at the Drew University Fall Classic Tournament.

Brielle Pearce netted the game winner after a hard foul gave the Bears the free kick in scoring range 7:42 into the overtime period.

Westfield State rallied from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits in the game.  Delaney Parker redirected a ball from Madi Dufries to tie the game at 1-1 just before halftime.

Coast Guard grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute with Pearce tallying, then Dufries converted off of a pass from Jaida Cochran in the 75th minute to force the extra session.

Sarah Fuller and Lauryn Davis split the game in goal for Westfield and combined for six saves.

Westfield made the most of their scoring opportunites, netting two goals in just three shots-on-goal in the game.

Westfield will be back in action tomorrow at noon, facing Bard (NY) College at noon in day 2 of the tournament.
