Grant's 34 Helps Owls Slay Tigers, 88-70

WESTFIELD, Mass. –Westfield State junior forward Jordan Grant (Gray, Maine) scored a career high 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as she led the Owls to a 88-70 win over SUNY-Cobleskill in a non-conference women's basketball matchup at the Woodward Center on Wednesday night.
 
Westfield will close the first semester with a 7-5 overall, while Cobleskill is 7-6.
 
Grant scored 24 of her 34 in the second half. Westfield led 45-38 at the half, and the Fighting Tigers hung around until the start of the fourth quarter when they trailed 62-53.

The Owls scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter, leading 70-53 after an old-fashioned three-point play by Grant.
 
From there, Cobleskill would get no closer than 14, and Grant scored 13 straight points for the Owls to build the lead to 85-62 with 3:55 left to play.
 
Grant finished 12-22 from the floor and 10-11 at the foul line.   The 34 points matches the 10th best single game scoring total in Owls women's basketball history.  The 24 in the second half is second only to Jill Valley's 35 in a half in a school-record 52- point performance in 2017,
 
Olivia Hadla (Westfield, Mass.) added 13 points for Westfield, Maddie Pond (Holyoke, Mass.) netted 12 on 4-9 shooting from long range, and Jordyn Lummus (Pittsfield, Mass.) finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
 
Cobleskill as led by 14 points and 10 rebounds from Emily Satterday (Latham, NY/Shaker), with Sierra Delaney (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) contributing 12 in limited minutes off the bench.  Hannah Cater (Schoharie, NY) grabbed eight rebounds and Talia Washington (Schenectady, N.Y.)  finished with eight points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
 
Westfield will be idle until January 2, when they play Coast Guard in what is now a 2:00 p.m. matinee.  (Please note the time change from the original 7 p.m.) start time.
