WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore Johnny Ware (Wilmington, Mass.) secured conference honors this past week, earning the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week for his performance at the Coast Guard Invite this past Saturday.

Ware won the javelin throw with a personal-best toss of 53.72 meters to move into the top 50 in the national performance list in the event. He currently holds the third longest throw in the Mideast Region.

Ware will look to ride the hot hand into this upcoming Saturday as Westfield State is set to host the Jerry Gravel Classic from Alumni Field and the Jerry Gravel Track beginning with field events at 10:00 A.M. followed by running events at 12:00 P.M. noon.
