WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State first-year Nathan Sylven won the men's 3000 steeplechase to highlight the Owls performances at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Invitational on Saturday in North Dartmouth, Mass.

Sylven cleared the barriers in a time of 10:11.24 in his winning effort.  He added a fifth place finish in the 5,000 meters in 16.17.92.

Westfield also got a strong performance from Gordon Johnson in the 800 meters, where he placed third in a time of 2:01.12.

Overall, the Owl men placed seventh among 10 scoring teams.  WPI topped the meet.

Westfield will be back in action next Saturday at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Invitational meet.
