Westfield State senior Shane Clark (Bellows Falls, Vt.) placed second in the men's javelin at the Williams College Track and Field final qualifier with a toss of 56.44 meters.

Clark was just .20 meters behind event winner Evan White of RPI.

Clark's toss was his second-best ever, but still finds himself just short of an NCAA championships qualifying mark. Clark is currently 27th on the NCAA Division III performance list, with a field of 20 selected for the national championship meet.

Clark will have one more chance to qualify tomorrow, as he will compete at the M.I.T. Final Qualifier meet in Cambridge, Mass. at 5:00 p.m.    Clark needs to find a throw of 57.78 to move into the top 20 to all but assure himself of a spot, pending the other last-chance results around the nation.

Any progress up the list will help Clark's chances of qualification – scratches and injuries will advance athletes just outside the top 20 into the championship field.

MIT will have live results for Thursday's meet, the last day athletes can set a performance mark for consideration by the NCAA.
