WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Several Westfield State student-athletes were recently named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Sportsmanship Team for the 2018-19 winter season, as announced by the conference earlier this week.

Senior men's track runner Tim Forrest (Grafton, Mass.), senior women's track and field runner Kerri Long (Weymouth, Mass.), junior women's basketball guard Cayla Durkee (Georgetwon, Mass.), freshman men's ice hockey forward Jake Ratcliffe (Caterbury, New Zealand), and junior men's basketball guard Sam Traicoff (Beverly, Mass.) were all a part of the winter sportsmanship team.

Forrest was the MASCAC champion in the men's 5000 meters and also was a part of the 4x800 relay team that took the crown as well. He also placed second in both 5000 meters events at the Pioneer Invitational and the meet in Middletown, Conn. Earlier in the season.

Long was the MASCAC champion in the women's long jump this winter. At the championships, Long competed in eight events, finishing in the top four in all of them, and scored 35 individual points to propel the Owls to the MASCAC title. She also placed second in the women's 400 meters at the Pioneer Invitational and had two second-place finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the Massasoit Classic.

Durkee was a part of a women's basketball team that won its fourth straight MASCAC championship this past season. Durkee averaged just under 20 minutes a game for the Owls, contributing nearly four rebounds a game, and shooting 38% from the floor.

Ratcliffe was this year's MASCAC Rookie of the year, tallying 12 goals and 10 assists for a team-leading 22 points. He recorded the first hat-trick of his career in a 6-0 win over Framingham State and was a consistent threat on the Owls power-play.

Traicoff was a part of a men's basketball team that made it all the way to the MASCAC championship game. He shot 40% from the field, 37% from the three-point line, and did not miss a free throw all season.
