WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Junior men's track and field athlete William Canty (South Grafton, Mass.) was named this week's MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference earlier today.

Canty set the Owls' school record in the heptathlon, finishing second in a field of Division I and II athletes, at the Harvard University multi-event meet on Friday and Saturday. He scored 4,582 points, improving upon his own mark of a year ago.

Canty was the only DIII competitor at the meet. He placed second overall with second-place performances in the shot put, the 60 hurdles, the pole vault and the 1000 meter run. Within those eventds, he threw a personal best in the shot put (12.56m/41'2.5") and a collegiate best leap of 5'10" (1.78m) in the high jump.
