Westfield, Mass. – Westfield State sophomore goalie Valtteri Valtonen (Helsinki, Finland) claimed the MASCAC Goalie and Rookie of the Week after stopping 25 shots in a 3-2 victory over Franklin Pierce University on Thursday afternoon. The net minder stood tall in the closing minute of the game as a Franklin Pierce power play and an empty net had the Ravens skating six on four before the Owls secured the win.

Valtonen picked up his fifth win in his ninth start of the season on Thursday as he now boasts a 5-3-1 record with a 2.69 goals against average and a .927 save percentage. In the Owls current three-game winning streak, he is 3-0 with a 1.66 goals against average and a .953 save percentage.
