AUBURN, Mass. -- Junior defenseman Josh Boulos (Burlington, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Owls as Westfield Stated and Anna Maria played to a 1-1 tie in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night at Horgan Arena.

Both goaltenders stood on their heads, with Owl goalie Thierry Messervier (Montreal, Quebec) making 39 saves while the Amcat tender Julius Huset added 33 of his own.

Boulos' goal came in the second period when he was able to score on a low shot that never left the ice from straight away. Huset appeared to be screened and never saw the puck as it made its way passed him to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.

Not long after that, Anna Maria tied the game up at one all on a power play goal by Patrick Peltola (Espoo, Finland). Peltola received the pass from teammates Sam Cyr-Ledoux and Patrick Manning just off to the Owl tender's left side and let it rip. The puck hit a defenseman for Westfield and redirected itself into the top left corner of the net.

The remainder of the game was very evenly matched, despite a 7-1 shot advantage in overtime for the home squad, and ended in OT with the score knotted at 1-1.

Anna Maria finished the game 1-2 on the power play, with the Owls going 0-2.

With the tie, Westfield State moves to 7-4-5 on the year and prepares to jump back into conference play on Saturday as they host Fitchburg State at 5:35 p.m. Points in the MASCAC are now of most importance, as the Owls are tied with Fitchburg for second place with a game in hand.
