WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State senior forward Daniel Backstrom (Helsinki, Finland) was named this past week's MASCAC men's ice hockey Player of the Week.

Backstrom picked up three points on two goals and an assist in the Owls' 3-2 overtime win at Assumption College. He tallied the first goal on the power play with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to bring the Owls within one. He then assisted on the game-tying goal with five seconds left, and would later score the game-winner in overtime.

It was the first overtime-winner, and the fourth total game-winning goal, of his career.

The Owls take a brief hiatus for the holiday and return to action January 9th when they travel to Stonehill for a 4:10 p.m. matchup with the Skyhawks.
