Women's XC Tops at Trinity Invitational

2023 Westfield State Women's Cross Country Team

WESTFIELD, Mass. -  Westfield State women's cross country picked up their second straight team title as the Owls won the Trinity Invitational meet on Saturday morning at Wickham Park in Manchester, Conn. on Saturday morning.

Westfield finished with 46 points to the host's 63, followed by Union (67) and Keene State (88) in the eight-team, 77-athlete meet.

Shea Hamel (Longmeadow, Mass.) was first across the line for Westfield State with a time of 20:51.90 on the 5,000 meter course, taking fifth place.   The Owls placed six runners in the top 15, with Julianne Kelly eighth in 21:42, Molly Kennedy ninth in 21:43.80 and Grace Poplawski (Rowe, Mass./Mohawk Regional) tenth in 21:47.90.

Union's Catherine Dacey was the women's individual champ with a time of 20:04.40. Athletes from the University of Hartford, formerly a Division I program that this year dropped to the NCAA Division III level, took two of the top five placings.

The Owls won for the second straight week after capturing the Keene Alumni Invitational a week ago.

Westfield will next compete at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational, next Saturday, Sept. 16.
