Women's XC Wins "White" Race at Conn College Invite

WESTFIELD, Mass. –   Westfield State's women ran in a tight grouping to help the Owls to a win in the women's "white" race at the Conn College Invitational at Harkness Park in Waterford, Conn. on Saturday morning.

First-year Julianne Kelly led the Owls group with an eighth-place finish in 24:16 over the 6,000 meter course 

Ariann Lecours was next in 13th in 24:21, followed by Mia McDonald in 15th, Shea Hamel in 16th, and Tealei Chandonnet in 22nd to round out the scoring group.

Westfield finished with 74 points to outdistance Springfield (88) and Eastern Connecticut State's (128) entries in the 14-team 113-athlete race.  

Clark University's Ruby Krasnow won the white race in 22:03.   The Blue Division was won by NYU's Vivian Kane in 21:18, while the team race was won by national #6 MIT. 22 teams and 308 student-athletes  competed in the Blue Division.

Westfield split the squad on Saturday, also sending a group to compete at the Western New England Invitational, taking fourth among the seven teams.   The Owls were led by  Lauren Flynn, who finished 11th individually in a time of 25:36 on the women's 6k course.   Smith College topped the meet with 18 team points, led by individual champ Isabelle Vivanco in a time of 23:39, almost a minute ahead of her closest competitor.

Westfield will be the host site when the Owls next compete at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference championships at Stanley Park on October 29.
