Women's Cross Country Places Seventh at Purple Valley Classic

Westfield, Mass. - The Westfield State University women's cross country finished seventh overall at 207 points behind some of the top teams in the region on Saturday, October 1st in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College. The competition featured some heavy-hitting teams such as nationally ranked Williams (11) and Amherst (33) as a total of 11 teams and 117 athletes participated in the meet.

Owls first-year Julianne Kelly (Natick, Mass.) crossed the finish line first for the Owls at 34th overall with a finishing time of 25:05.8. Other standout performances from the Owl's include Ariann LeCours (Haverhill, Mass.) finishing in 25:31.3, and Tealei Chandonnet (Dracut, Mass.) finishing in 25:43.1. Both runners crossed the line back-to-back at 40 and 41 overall.

Amherst won the meet overall at 38 points. Three of the top ten finishers all ran for Amherst College. Mary Kate Granahan won the meet individually, crossing the finish line first at 22:19.4.

The Owls will compete again on Saturday, October 8th at their home course Stanley Park in Westfield Massachusetts as they stride into the James Earley Invitational meet.
